About Us
Once upon a time…
in 2013, to be exact, Hans purchased 10 overgrown acres and two dilapidated buildings in Kula’s Kēōkea neighborhood on Maui. Since then he has been turning his vision into reality, reclaiming the land for agriculture use, experimenting with crops to determine what will grow well here, and slowly beating back the wattle and other invasive species. The result is an amazing place with a profound sense of community, a place that speaks to and nourishes – both body and spirit – those who volunteer and visit.
Today we have about an acre of terraced gardens under cultivation and four acres of cleared pasture that we hope to eventually turn into garden area. We keep about a dozen sheep as lawn mowers and about 40 laying hens. There’s also a resident goat, Australian Shepherd and cat.
We have reintroduced native species into a three-acre native tree forest. ‘Ōhi’a lehua, koa, sandalwood, and other native trees are thriving in the midst of hand-cleared hiking trails through our beautiful land.
Our property is also home to a variety of wild animals, including axis deer, ring-necked pheasants, wild turkey and Jackson chameleons. You never know what is going to make an appearance!
We are blessed with an abundance of avocados! It appears the property was once an avocado farm, with approximately two dozen huge, old-growth avocado trees on the land. Due to their height we don’t have a great way of harvesting them so we have to wait for them to fall. If you don’t mind cutting away bruised spots, we have LOTS of avocados to share.
We are slowly establishing relationships with retail and wholesale outlets for our produce. Our goal is to produce crops that are valued by wholesalers and retailers and to continue to increase the amount of land under cultivation.
While we continue to reclaim overgrown land for agriculture use, we invite you to volunteer with us or visit and experience the land, produce, animals, people and spectacular views that make Huber Mountain a place you will never forget.

Our mission is to reclaim the land from invasive species and transform it into thriving, productive farmland—enhancing Maui’s food supply and fostering a sustainable future.
What we love to do every day
We work in the sun, we sweat and we get dirty. We cook for ourselves and we live around other people, some of whom may be very different from ourselves. We grow food and we create community.
We are not certified organic, but we do use regenerative farming practices and none of our crops are sprayed.
What we’re growing in the garden
We’ve experimented – a lot – to find out what grows well here. We’ve found that lettuces, kale, cherry tomatoes, leeks, yellow squash, chards, beets, carrots, and of course avocados, love it here as much as we do. We also have a variety of fruit trees including citrus, bananas, peaches, and apples.
Our land is prime territory for coffee, and while we have a few plants we are not YET producing coffee. It’s one of our goals.
